About the developer
Karen
Myers is a business analyst by profession and has put her problem solving
talents to good use over the years playing with all manners of puzzles.
She has recently developed a word game, Samagrams, which she describes as
"Anagrams with a difference".
Karen
came up with the concept for Samagrams after she was retrenched and found that
she had more time to spend on crosswords and other puzzles. It was then
that she noticed that very dissimilar words could be separated by only one
letter; for example FEDERAL and LEADER have the same letters except for an F.
From there it was a short hop to thinking that a clue would help work out the
words - and Samagrams was born.
Why
"Samagrams"? Karen said it was because she wanted a name that
was the game - SAMAGRAM and ANAGRAMS have one letter different - and it's
almost like SAME ANAGRAMS too. Also, she said, it's because she spent a lot of time at her local cafe, The Post Cafe, and the Post host is Sam - which is lucky otherwise he may have had to change his name!
Samagrams
will appeal to people who love word play. The aim is to have it eventually
on-line and interactive - and start out without any letters in the
solutions. Then, depending on how difficult the puzzle is - and there are
some that are quite "unexpected" - players can, if they choose, have
letters revealed. The good thing is that once you have one word in the
answer, you've got most, if not all, of the other word's letters as well.
Karen
sees Samagrams as a natural extension to her other interests, including
problem-solving, puzzles of all kinds, blogging, photography, writing, and
exploring ideas. She likes to think "outside the box" and
Samagrams has given her a chance to play with words in a creative and
innovative way while she works out what to do next in her career.
